Manufacturing of a part for the automotive sector for BBE ENGINEERING

The aim was to manufacture a large part in plastic for the automotive sector, with very tight tolerances, high dimensional and aesthetic requirements and with zones of very thin walls between large masses of material areas connected by a very narrow passage.

Plastic injection is the traditional manufacturing technique for this type of parts. One of the most common problems is that the mold does not cool properly and therefore quality defects, such as overtones, different color lines, warping or fragile areas, appear in the piece.
Additive manufacturing technologies offer dramatic results in the field of injection molding, as they allow manufacturing internal cooling channels, with complex geometry and optimized for the part to be injected, otherwise impossible to achieve with conventional technologies, in short deadlines and tight budgets.
